Have you ever been interested in volunteering at a historic Martello Tower? Well now you can!
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us at Jaywick Martello Tower.

Whether you give up an hour of your time when you can, help out at one of our larger events, or come in regularly, all help will be greatly appreciated.

As an arts, heritage, and community venue there are a wide variety of areas that you could be involved in and your volunteering can be tailored to suit your own interests.



What’s involved?

There are a number of things you can do while volunteering at JMT. Activities could include:

  • Giving Tours of the Tower
  • Greeting Visitors (relief to receptionist)
  • Giving Talk
  • Attending Talks
  • Arranging Coastal Walks
  • Contributing and/or Producing a Newsletter
  • Assist in educational workshops
  • Community Archive 
  • Fundraising
  • Carry out research
  • Loan of information for research, exhibitions or archive.
  • Or maybe you can help in a way we haven’t considered?!

By volunteering for Jaywick Martello Tower you will be helping to support a local organisation and strengthening your connections with the local community.

The Friends of Jaywick Martello Tower

The local community have supported Jaywick Martello Tower since it opened in 2005, and there is now a group of core of volunteers, 'The Friends of Jaywick Martello Tower', who give their time to support the Tower.  

The Friends are committed to help assist with the accessibility of the Tower for public benefit of recreation and learning. They assist staff with inclusive interpretation, exhibitions, events and workshops at JMT.

The Friends of Jaywick Martello Tower also help to promote the Tower as a community venue and attraction and support Essex County Council in the Towers management and sustainability.
